The long awaited bridge to island on Bawburgh Lake was finally completed on 3rd September and immediately opened.

The bailiffs had worked extremely hard to complete this ambitious project which has been fraught with set backs, but the completed job is I hope all would agree excellent.

General maintenance has continued at the fishery and contracts will be drawn up with contractors for next year for grass and hedge trimming and track maintenance.

Bawburgh financial year-end comes on 30th September final figures are yet to be assessed and next years budgets set but the aim will be to invest in the fishery.

Fishing has been productive for some anglers with some great carp being caught along with a brace of thirties, and with the end of the summer upon us pike anglers are eagerly waiting for 1st October, and the lakes I’m sure will not disappoint again this year with the possibility of the reported 30lb fish from last year showing its self again on lodge farm lake.

NOTE  Bawburgh Lake will again be closed to pike fishing this winter

The new season started slowly on all the lakes and then exploded into life weekend of 2nd 3rd April with many good carp into low-mid twenties being reported from Colney1 and Colney2, but the fishery achieved a new first with its first 30lb common from Colney1 at 30.12, this fish is one of our stocked fish from the EA in 1977 and has achieved an impressive growth rate.

The fishing has continued well in the week ending 9th April with fish coming to the bank on Lodge and Colney also Seamons one of our small lakes has produced two carp at 20lb and 21lb.

Work to improve the swims on Lodge and Colney is now complete, and we thank our members for their help while this work was being carried out, this work is part of the fisheries ongoing strategy of continual improvement to both the fishery and the habitat.
