Riverside road coaching event was held on Wednesday October 8th 2009

Young Albert with a fine Riverside breamNACA was supported by the Environment Agency to deliver one of its many coaching and educational days

Several youngsters and their parents turned up to take advantage of the free angling coaching sessions

The coaching day on the River Wensum was held on the riverbank just above the millennium footbridge NACA and Norwich Pike Angling Club along with the Environment Agency attended this quickly planned event to take advantage of the the half-term holiday. Five juniors and six adults were shown whip, pole and stick float fishing by NACA coaches Dennis & Judy, who were supported by Graham Gamble  (Environment Agency), Tom Boulton, Tony Gibbons (NDAA) and Paul Cordy (Cordy’s Tackle Den).

All who attended caught fish including some nice roach as well as perch to 1.5lbs and a bream of 2.5lb.

John Currie and friends from the Norwich PAC gave practical demonstrations of lure and deadbait fishing for pike. Several pike to 6lbs were taken and the team were able to show the safe handling and return of this species. Ned with Graham Gamble with a superb Riverside perchThe use of an unhooking mat is a necessity, particularly so on this stretch of river, where the riverbank surface is concrete or paved.

12 year old Albert Allen caught his first fish at our Bawburgh Open day six years ago and he showed the ability he has achieved since by landing the 2.5lb Bream on his pole tackle.

NACA's publicity officer Chris Smith came along to get some photos and his six year old son Ollie managed to catch some superb perch.

NACA extends a huge thank you to Angling Direct (Aylsham Road) and Sensas Goundbaits for providing bait, and to Morrisons Super market for allowing car parking and also to Norwich City Council for supporting this event.

Dear Dennis
Hello, this is Ned and William's mum replying on my Dad's email. Thank you for the lovely photos and thank you for the super day that both boys had. Please feel free to use the photos as we are so grateful that you gave up your time to give the boys a taste of fishing.
Best wishes
