Barbel Monitoring Equipment installed on R. Wensum

Barbel Monitoring Points installed along River Wensum To support the introduction of both barbel and roach as reported on this website the Environment Agency have installed monitoring equipment at serveral sites in the Wensum valley. Some are installed on NACA managed fisheries.

It must be stressed that this Equipment is the property of the Environment Agency and is installed and maintained by them and NACA has no responsibity for its being there. The equipment presents a loop in the river with the bottom cable close to the river bed the upper cable as can be seen is positioned just above the water, as tagged fish move up and down the river the loop detects the fish movement and registers a date and the unique ID number inserted into the tagged fish, the Agency will be able to gather valuable information to the movement of fish over a period of time which will we hope provide a greater understanding of the rivers requirements to support a healthy breeding stock of all fish and aquatic species.

It is vital that the equipment is not disturbed or damaged in any way the Agency will be monitoring the equipment on a regular basis.
